Rumors, Allegations and Facts from the Rybacki Memorial Invitational

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the Rybacki Memorial Golf Tournament, in honor of “The Jimmy Fund” at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Last year’s Tournament also hit a milestone; it raised nearly $150,000, taking the Rybacki Memorial total donations to ONE MILLION DOLLARS…Quite something for a tournament that started with just sixteen players! This year we raised over $160,000 despite the rain, bringing our total to almost $1.2 million, which is heartwarming!

This year, 152 people took part in the Tournament. Thirty-eight groups total with six groups teeing off at 8:00 AM and the other 32 groups teeing off at 12:30 PM. This was the largest group we have ever had and those that chose the morning option were the ‘lucky’ ones. They completed their rounds in very comfortable weather while the afternoon group had the heavens open up four holes in. A lightning storm then forced us to abandon play for the day. The downpour did nothing to dampen our spirits, however, nor the generosity of those in attendance.

The rain forced everyone indoors where we had an elongated happy hour followed by dinner and a Charity Auction.

On the opening hole at the Haven Country Club, a memorial poster paid tribute to my late sister, Cyndi Paradise, who passed this year from a brain hemorrhage. Cyndi was a big supporter of the Tournament. The 150-strong group of participants marked a moment of silence in her honor.

Fittingly, this year’s funds will support the work of Dr Lakshmi Nayak, whose research targets brain cancer. Dr Nayak was also part of the care team that saved Scott Simon from this disease. Dana-Farber is a world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research and we are honored to be associated with this great American institution.
