SIGMA Scholar Anish Roy Heads to UConn
SIGMA is proud to congratulate SIGMA Scholarship recipient Anish Roy, son of Ajay Roy, Director of Product and Engineering. Anish is a member of the freshman class at the University of Connecticut, where he is pursuing a major in Biology with a focus on Physiology and Neurobiology, after which he plans to attend medical school.
Anish graduated from Northern Burlington High School with a strong academic record, completing 12 AP courses and 10 Honors courses while playing four years of varsity tennis and earning membership in the National Honor Society. His interest in medicine began well before college, with more than 250 hours of clinical experience working alongside physicians and gaining firsthand insight into the medical field he hopes to pursue. He also developed a strong commitment to service and leadership through the Boy Scouts of America, his role as VP of Medicine in the International Scholarly Service Society, and his work as a math tutor helping fellow students prepare for the SAT. Outside of academics and service, Anish is an avid photographer who turned his passion into a business by selling his work through a website he designed and developed himself. He will continue at UConn on a pre-med track with a long-term goal of becoming a physician in cardiology.
Anish comments on the scholarship’s impact: “When I was deciding where to go to college, finances were a big part of the decision. I knew I wanted to pursue medicine, and because medical school would be a significant expense later on, I wanted to be thoughtful about how much I spent on my undergraduate education. The scholarship made a huge difference in making UConn a realistic option for me and took away a lot of the financial stress that came with that decision. It has also been a big inspiration for my sister as she works toward her own goals, and my family and I are incredibly grateful for the support, especially my mom, who has been such an important part of helping me navigate this process. This scholarship has allowed me to focus on my education and continue working toward my goal of becoming a cardiologist.”
Ajay adds: “The scholarship was a tremendous help to our family, but beyond the financial support, it gave Anish a lot of peace of mind. He had been thinking about the cost of both his undergraduate education and medical school for a long time, so knowing that he had this support made him feel much more confident about the path ahead. It was also a valuable lesson about the importance of giving—when people who have had success choose to use their resources to help others, it is incredibly powerful, and I know that is something Anish will carry with him for a long time. I hope this program can have the same impact on many other SIGMA families and help their children pursue their own ambitions and goals. I would encourage every eligible family to take advantage of this opportunity and to spread the word so that others can benefit from it as well.”
Furthermore, Anish found the application process straightforward and easy to navigate: “The application process was very easy to work through. The portal and requirements were clear, and the administrators of the Fund were incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the process.”
The SIGMA Scholars Fund was established by SIGMA Founders Siddharth Bhattacharji and Victor Pais following the sale of the company in 2025. The Fund’s mission is to award educational scholarships to children of SIGMA employees with the aim of instilling the spirit of learning during and after their years at college, and to foster success both in their careers and lives. The Fund covers expenses for many educational options including four-year colleges, junior and community college, trade schools, and technical certification institutes. Siddharth explains, “We built this business from the ground up, but we know we could never have done it without our employees. This is our way of thanking them.” The Fund had long been a goal of the founders and they are now in a position to channel time, effort, and resources to the project.
The Fund is administered by the Community Foundation of New Jersey, and they provide resources and support to assist applicants and their families through the process.
