Tennessee Treatment Plant Completed in Record Time

The McCroskey Island Treatment Plant reconstruction is drawing to a close. Dennis Wilson, SIGMA’s Technical Sales Engineer visited the site multiple times during its construction and interviewed the hardworking crew at Judy Construction who have toiled on the project for three years. “It was time to celebrate,” said Wilson. “I arrived with donuts and SIGMA swag in hand to celebrate the people who made this happen. This project has moved at lightning speed, but even so men working onsite have been coming from their homes in Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and elsewhere every week for  three years to improve this wastewater treatment plant.”

The McCroskey Island project is being led by seasoned contractor and construction management service provider, Judy Construction Company. Judy has extensive experience in the build and renovation of water and wastewater treatment facilities.

As Superintendent Steve Sullivan, from Judy Construction noted, “It takes a toll working away from home for such long periods of time. But there's a genuine love for what they do. You get a sense of our team’s pride in their work when you speak to them about this job”.

Judy’s Pipe Foreman Chad Beecraft, aka "Pipe Boss”, lights up when describing the challenges and ‘wins’ they've had on this mammoth project.

In the course of the project SIGMA has supplied 127 tons of fittings and restraints. This translates to around 250 4” to 54” MJ & Flange fittings and more than 450 4” to 54” ductile iron restraints. To date, 10 full flatbed loads have been delivered on a preset schedule to Ferguson & Judy Construction.

A staggering fact (and source of great pride) for Steve Sullivan is how seamlessly the project was delivered to their customer. Steve commented that in terms of those 10 flatbeds full of SIGMA products there was only one problem – one single bolt was an issue. "SIGMA's products are dependable. We can specify them and not worry about problems now when installing them or down the road."

The Judy team will remain on site at the Plant until it is fully operational around November. Steve said he's hoping Judy lands another large project a few miles away so they can continue working in the area, doing what they love and, of course, using SIGMA's reliable products.
