Jack and Andy Trotta: Father and Son Take Inventory
When Jack Trotta started at SIGMA as Inventory Control Manager in 2018, he had no idea his son Andy would be following in his footsteps.
The Inventory Control Manager role was a demanding one; tasked with balancing SIGMA’s inventory through consolidated transfers, managing freight costs, and conducting strategic forecasts to predict and place product where it would be needed took keen focus. Within the first year, Jack had managed to save SIGMA about $550k in freight charges, and his success continued. He knew there was a need to expand the supply chain team and thought it might be a good fit for his son, a recent college graduate.
Jack explains: “SIGMA is a great place to work—there is an authentic family atmosphere here. Everyone is supportive and professional and we look out for each other. I’ve worked in places where there was a competitive, cut-throat culture and it was unpleasant. I knew that Andy had a strong work ethic and he would follow through on things but I was not part of the selection process. I was in a meeting one day and was told he had been hired—I was elated!”
At first, the Trottas commuted together, and it was a bonding experience. They would arrive at work, set the plan for the day and off they’d go to their respective offices. Andy adds: “When I was hired in 2024, I wasn’t even sure what the job was—and then—surprise!—I was reporting directly to my dad. But it has worked out really well. We keep it professional, but because we get along so well, we have a really good working relationship and being colleagues brought us closer. Last year I was promoted to Inventory Manager for Cream Ridge, and I’ve kept the supply chain assistant duties, so my role has expanded.”
Andy credits SIGMA’s positive environment for his success: “Everyone here is really nice, eager to help, and I learn so much from my coworkers.”
Jack adds that this is a full-circle moment for his family: “It’s a funny coincidence, but my first real job was at the company where my dad worked, and now history is repeating itself with this generation!”
SIGMA thanks Jack and Andy for their dedication and excellent work, and we wish them continued success!
