Rybacki Memorial Raises $150k and a Few Eyebrows
The 2025 Rybacki Memorial Tournament was a resounding success. This year’s event raised over $150k to fund the research of Dana-Farber’s Dr. Paul Richardson in the fight against Multiple Myeloma. Organizers Larry and Chris Rybacki chose to support Dr. Richardson’s work in honor of their friend Bill Driskill, Vice President of Core & Main, who is valiantly battling this rare blood cancer. Larry comments on the significance of the tournament, “The Rybacki Memorial is really special. It marks one day where we all come together, unified with one common goal: to fight cancer. We have people from all over the country in the waterworks industry, folks who are in competition all year round, but for this one day, we are all on the same team. It’s really beautiful, and I am humbled and grateful for the continued support.”
On a less serious note, Larry confessed to a few casualties: “I won’t mention any names, but we did have two guys who slept on the pavement under their cars. I had to wake them up and send them home in Ubers.”
As always, guests showed up with creative spirit; the team from UCONN paid homage to NASCAR, fully geared up in auto racing attire, and according to Larry, “played like race car drivers, they were an absolute riot”. The cart girls, tasked with the challenging job of keeping drinks flowing to all the guests, said that the Rybacki Tournament broke all previous records for tips. Larry explains, “We are a generous bunch of drunks!”
The awards ceremony at the tournament’s close is always memorable. Typically, Larry and Chris bestow two Randy Drapeau trophies to the most useless participants. This year, it was a runaway; Tim Whall so far outstripped the competition for his dreadful play he took home both Randy Drapeau Awards. During his teary acceptance speech, Tim thanked the Rybacki family for the honor and gushed that aside from the birth of his children, this was the proudest moment of his life.
The adorable Rybacki grandchildren, Coco and Hayden Rybacki, joined in the festivities. They stole the show and made the tournament a three-generation celebration supporting Dana-Farber in the fight against cancer.
It’s not too late to help! If you wish to join the Rybackis in support of Dr Richardson’s research, please contact cdayotas@sigmaco.com for information on how to donate.
